FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Garland, TX - November 17, 1997 3D Realms signs the alternative band KMFDM
to provide the original music for their upcoming PC game Prey
Alternative band KMFDM is joining forces with the developers at 3D Realms to provide
the music for the upcoming 3D action game Prey. KMFDM will create completely original
music for the game.
KMFDM and 3D Realms
have been in communication for several months, and after Prey was shown to them in
Seattle, both parties knew that this was a collaboration that just had to happen. KMFDM's
music, a truly unique blend of energy, intensity and attitude, dovetails perfectly with
the goals of Prey.
"Before we even started putting together our short list of bands we'd like to work
with," explained Paul Schuytema, Prey's project leader, "our entire development
team was listening to their music. It was natural that they were the top of our list.
We're completely thrilled to be working with them."
"Their music is so unique and that's what drew us to them. They don't just mimic
the hundreds of alternative bands out there-they've been creating their own musical vision
for over a decade. That, coupled with the fact that we both share the same visceral vision
for Prey, makes this a potentially awesome collaboration," continued Schuytema.
"When we first heard about this project, we were very interested," explained
KMFDM's Sascha Koneitzko. "We'd been asked to work on games before, but nothing felt
right. We did some research, and realized that Prey had potential. After we took a look at
the game, I knew this was the right move-no question about it. It's the coolest thing I've
seen."
Prey: A Talon Brave Game, 3D Realms' ultra-ambitious action title, will be a
first-person, true 3D game which will feature 3D Realms' own Portal Technology engine. The
technology utilized in Prey will offer the player unprecedented visual fidelity and
realism. Beyond simply awesome technology, Prey will deliver an intense science fiction
story, placing the player into the shoes of Talon Brave, a modern-era Apache Indian who is
forced to become a reluctant hero as he comes up against the awesome power of the Trocara.
KMFDM was formed in Paris in 1984 by Sascha Koneitzko and Udo Sturm-currently, the band
is based in Seattle. KMFDM stands for the German phrase "kein mehrheit fur die
mitleid," which, roughly translated, means "no pity for the majority." To
date, the band has released 9 major albums, culminating in their recently released
Symbols. Called "the inventors of
electronic angst music," KMFDM's music is infused with an aggressive intensity and a
message that shuns the "me too-ness" of our modern culture. To KMFDM,
individualism is the key.
For Symbols, Sascha Koneitzko, En Esch and Gunther Schulz were the core team, and other
friends and collaborators included Tim Skold (Skold), Orge (Skinny Puppy), Raymond Watts
(Pig), Abby Travis (Beck, Elastica), William Rieflin (Ministry, RevCo) and Michael Bassin
(Treponem Pal).
KMFDM has just finished up a European tour and is currently on tour in the United
States. The band will begin major work on Prey in January 1998. Visit KMFDM on the web at
