Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition Sound Patch by Ken Silverman - April 22, 2000 Has Duke Nukem 3D been crashing predictably whenever you enter certain places in the game? It happens mostly on "SB Live!" PCI sound cards, but may occur on others as well. Here are some examples of places that crash: Episode 1, Level 2: In the sewer (behind the toilet and under the blown up building) Episode 1, Level 3: Behind the church (after the cross inverts and room turns red) Episode 1, Level 4: Crashes immediately! I made a little program that fixes this problem. It disables the "echo" effect by modifying some bytes in DUKE3D.EXE. This patch works for v1.3D (shareware & registered) and v1.5 (Atomic Edition). If you are patching v1.3d (registered), please be aware that this will require you to reinstall from the original CD if you purchase the Plutonium PAK at some point in the future. Somebody out there is still working for you. :) -------------------- NOTES ABOUT THIS PATCH: This patch needs to be in your Duke Nukem 3D directory before you run it. By default, this is C:\DUKE3D, but this might be different if you installed your game to a different directory. This version of the patch supports the following versions of the game: Duke Nukem 3D v1.3d Shareware Duke Nukem 3D v1.3d Registered Duke Nukem 3D v1.5 Registered (aka "The Atomic Edition") If you encounter problems applying this patch, delete your copy of Duke Nukem 3D, and reinstall from your original CD If you encounter any problems running this patch, please contact 3D Realms tech support at help@3drealms.com. SPECIAL NOTE: If you patch your v1.3d copy of the game, and then at a later date purchase "The Plutonium PAK", **IT WILL FAIL INSTALLATION NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO**. In that case, you'll have to reinstall v1.3d from the original registered CD to install the Plutonium PAK. Ken also has the source code for this modification available on his web site, if you're interested in downloading that, you can do so by visiting his web site (which is shown below). 3D Realms Site: http://www.3drealms.com 3D Realms Tech Support http://www.3drealms.com/help.html Ken Silverman's Build Page: http://www.advsys.net/ken/build.htm
