Joe Siegler Goes Mad With Digital Camera!

In a photographic frenzy, Joe Siegler raided the Duke Nukem Forever offices and starting snapping shots. The Duke guys, having not seen bright light in many moons, were naturally startled and alarmed. Here are some shots of the results of Joe's abrupt and unwelcome appearance in the Duke hole.

Possible Duke Nukem Actor Found!

Searching high and low for an actor for the Duke Nukem movie has been difficult to say the least. Finally, we heard a faint voice from across the room. "Um guys, I think I can play Duke." We turned and looked at the tall, lanky form of Keith Schuler (map designer for Duke Nukem Forever).

Not wanting to hurt his feelings we said "Sure Keith, go dress like Duke if you want to." Witness the results, although we think Keith has gotten a little carried away with the "Keith Nukem" thing.

Scott Miller Interviewed about the Waiting Game

David Laprad of the Adrenaline Vault has written another excellent article about a side of the computer gaming industry that everyone has an opinion about. "Why do games take so long to be released?" Here's the beginning of David's article:

What is the greatest source of frustration for game players? Is it buggy software, rising prices, or the rapid evolution of costly hardware? No, though these are pressing concerns. What about Internet lag, operating system conflicts, or your wife insisting on checking her e-mail when you are deathmatching because she wants to go to bed. Never mind that you are winning; she also wants you to put the kids down, turn on the front porch light, and...Ahem. Never mind. You are getting colder, but again, these are viable considerations.

Let me give you a clue. In fact, if you play 3D action games, this should be a no-brainer. Tell me, comrade, if this sounds familiar: "Our game will be released when it is finished."

Scott Miller is quoted extensively in the article, and you might get some insight into why these things take as long as they do by checking out the article.

Duking it out in Dallas

Andy Patrizio of TechWeb has written an article about the local gaming industry here in Dallas, TX. In it, he talks about how the game companies in this area are different from others such as Acclaim & Electronics Arts. In the article, Scott Miller says, "This is definitely a young person's industry, especially if you're going to put in the long hours and be dedicated".

Furthermore, Scott Miller talks a little about the formation of Apogee 10 years ago, and some of the things that have happened to us over that time, including the appearance of several other developers.

House of Mouse

The House of Mouse is a page dedicated to one of the most popular input devices around: the mouse. The mouse isn't just for pointing and clicking anymore it's for aiming and killing your opponent. The House of Mouse helps you get the most out of your mouse in first person shooters.

"The House of Mouse dedicates itself to enlightening the unbaptized masses of gamers who play 3d games with a joypad, a joyless joystick, or (gasp!) a keyboard," House of Mouse High Priest, kolinahr, says. "In other words, the House was built to spread the gospel of the mouse.

Duke Nukem is a Top 10 Most Important Download

CNet's Gamecenter recently ran a special on what they called "The Top 10 Most Important Downloads of All Time". In this special, the original Duke Nukem game placed at #5. The article had this to say about Duke Nukum:

* Duke Nukem was originally Duke Nukum (gasp), a side-scroller with all the attitude he could muster before sound in PC games made it to 16 bits.
* Though he may be 2D, Duke still brings a tear to our eye. My how our boy has grown up to be a man!

On the page, they offer both Duke Nukem I and Duke Nukem II for download.

Furthermore, Wolfenstein 3D placed at the Number One spot! They had this to say about Wolfenstein 3D:

* No other game (at the time) gave you the feeling of actually "being there" like this one.
* A "3D" first-person shooter that took gaming violence to a new level.
* The action--complete with hidden rooms, pouncing German shepherds, nasty Nazi guards, and SS troopers--was like nothing we had seen before.
